Does This Happen To You Too?

You’re thirsty…you’re still thirsty. But you can’t pull yourself away from your desk to fill up your empty water glass. This happens to me today.

Who can relate?

Here’s my strategy for sustaining a new habit.

1 -

I’m aware.

2 -

I’m dedicated to improving in this area.

3 -

In the moments I notice I don’t feel that great (e.g. slower brain, lower energy), I’m reminding myself that I’m dedicated to improving in this area. If we tune in, our body sends us many signals.

4 -

I make the conscious effort to pull myself away from the focused effort that’s distracting me from getting more water. Even if my brain is doing its best to keep me focused on the task in front of the computer.

I get up. I refill my glass.

This sounds so simple, I know. However, if I can go hours sitting in front of the computer without drinking water, this may be happening to you too.

We may have to disrupt our habits, routines, and even our brain to start and sustain a new, healthy habit.
